A bill to allow residents to store rainwater has passed the state House. It allows resident to have a maximum of two 55-gallon barrels to catch rainwater for use on personal gardens and lawns.
Colorado is the only state where collecting rainwater is illegal. A recent Colorado State University study found that the possible effect of residential rain barrels on downstream water sources was minimal. Opponents say capturing the rainwater would hurt downstream ranchers, farmers and towns.Next, the state Senate takes up the bill.
